I have no idea where I would be today if my FIRST ever mountain bike ride had been on something like Special K in the woods of Nederland - as a 13 year old. Nor can I imagine complaining to my Dad at 8 years of age that 'his' trails were too narrow. Celebs in the hood today and they - and we threw down in a whole new way...creating that future of riding...one foot at a time. Killer job U and RJK. You are welcome in the hood anytime.

Panama 2006
- In the spirit of adventure and having new experiences together, the Missus and I rolled the dice on some informal recomendations and an ad from the back of Surfer Magazine for a 'Private Surf Island' off the coast of Panama. Suffice to say - we had a great, diverse crew on the island, scored some of the best - and longest waves - I have ever ridden and already have the island booked for next year. This is the DL from Morro Negrito - 2006.
'Round The Hood
- So, we live at 8,040 feet. We commute via bike some 17 - odd miles and 3,200 feet of vertical down to Boulder, most days. On the other days, we are running, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, drinking beer in the meadows and ridges around the house. The natural environment is something we are immersed in every day. This album is an attempt at reflecting on and capturing some of the beauty that we are immersed in every day. After a decade and a half of this - I am just getting warmed up and feel like a tourist seeing it for the first time every day. All these photos are in the hood - in the yard. It's a hellofa yard.
Colorado Trail 2004
- In August of 2004 an assortment of riders from Nederland, Belgium and Northern California set out to ride some 320 miles of trails across the amazing state of Colorado. This is their story.
Snow
- Being that we live at 8,040 feet, weather, and snow are both a huge part of life. We shovel it, ride through it, ride on it, pray for it, curse it. We love it. Whether it's burying the ramp, blowing into hug lip launches at Edlora or carrying us over a cornice in some distant part of the state - it is a huge part of our constitution.

UpGrades
There are upgrades in the works. If you are going to have a mini-golf hole in the middle of the wilderness...you might as well have the gnome and the beer reward. If yer gonna have a dicso ball illuminating a remote stunt - it might as well spin and have lights. If you're gonna have the coolest campsite in the world...it might as well have the best view in the world and a fab fire pit. And, as usual...q steals the show at the end of the day. Without coaxing...he did his first ever stand up drop in. Just saddled up and dropped the bitch. Truly inspiring. I think between my dry land training for Nicaragua and Q's appetite for skating...it will be a great fall.

Back in The Chi.....
there is moment when the whole CREATION thing turns to ART. Ask any artist. First you are hacking through marble...then you are creating....David. First you are hacking thru a dense patch of FOREST and 1.5 beers later (and maybe a few months of hiking and swearing and getting lost) the shit turns to art. That IS a moment. I REALLY like being there for that moment. It is a Shift. A fundamental change to - we will connect this - to - we will connect this artfully. We are there. This shit is going to be famous. Maybe only among 4 people - but that just makes it more so thus.

One Can not Ride It All
But One Can Try.....
I am an over-cooked rotissiere chicken. Someone sanded my taint (I think it's the salt pouring into the shammy); Climbing in excruciating heat with a head cold is either - A: Brilliant - or B - Moronic - or D - Both. Sleeping out 4 nights in a row and riding some EPIC SHIT and meeting folks who think it's reasonable, even not a big deal to ride 45 pound city bikes from Banff to Colorado. This, my Dear Reader(s) (there may be 2 left in the fray) is the tree roots of life. The Shiznit. The cracking open of minds in great ways. Thanks to The Man of Joe for 15+ years of solidarity and challenge out there on the trails and off the trails. May it ever be thus. Amen.

Legends On Legends
Many years ago a man was stalking my trails. He gave me a squash and an eloquent note and the rest is history. It is with great humility and love that I rokked The "K" of Special with the man of rabbit tonite. It is a cosmic alignment, a bookend of fate as it were that we would ride the foot of big and see the temerity of the battle that is upon us. Ressurection is inevitable. We are resilient beyond your wildest beliefs you motherfuckers. Guess what - it's almost like we LIVE here. We will outlive, outbuild and outsmart you. Long live the Chupa, The Tupa and The Bigfooted Mo Fo. He will be back. Just you wait.You can take out steel cutouts of mythical forest creatures...but you can not estimate the strength of our souls.

It is all coming together. If we can survive "It". It is growing in scope and scale and It almost slaughtered us all today. If It gets any longer, higher, harder or rough, I may need to revert to an engine between my legs. Suffice to say, It is awesome. Inspiring. Intimidating. And I will be back on It, tomorrow.
