Usually we go south. Nicaragua. Panama. Costa Rica. This year we went west to bring Dude into the heart of the American West. Abbey Country. Edward Abbey, that is. Abbey was what brought me West 25 years ago. In fact, I read 'Desert Solitaire' on an 8 day solo trek through canyon country. Kinds burned it into my mind, and I will quote him here: "The voice crying in the wilderness, with it's righteous assumption of enlightenment, tends to grate on the nerves of the multitude.
