All in a day's 'work'. As it were. The work of the weekends. 3 hours in the blessed land with Q. A nap, yardwork, and back out - on the single - up the road in thunder and rain and just a gorgeous afternoon discussing the most important topic of all on the porch of the man of F. Pretty tired. May take about 20 hours off. Fall is coming - much to do. Much to do.
Had someone say to me a few years back..."there's no adventure left in Boulder county and environs". HAH!!!I say. That was 10 years ago and I have been beaten, scraped, hypoxic, lost,'powerfully turned around' , hailed on, hunkered down in ravines during lightning storms and yes - chased by banjo wielding rednecks. Still, we return to the woods. For solace, to celebrate 11th wedding anniversary's and get LOST and to remember why we live here. Because - here - is rich, and powerful and seductive and mysterious and challenging.
Pretty worked over, and lucky for that. Tried to take a couple of days off the bike/board/bod this week and it had me feeling great. For about a day. Until I rode almost 5.5 hours on that day and crammed a skate in as well. Oh, and then there was work and family and lord knows what else. I keep trying to slow down - and it simply isn't working. They say you can rest when you are dead...I guess that's true. We're going MONDO tomorrow....60 miles of off-road 11 year marriage anniversary hammering.
So - an open poll: Images 3 & 4: Which one is - how shall we say - more offensive? More invasive? More destructive? Which one facilitates non-motorized travel in a minimally invasive way and keeps people healthier, happier and more in touch with their natural surroundings? Which one blows fucking slimy donkey balls? Dunno. This part of this whole 'natural resources and recreation and utility' argument escapes me.
All that trail work. It's midget construction dudes in the dark!!!!!! OMG.
Entropy always wins. The woods were not made for our passage - and so - over time - they just return to the way they were. And they win. And the little furry creatures win. And this morning, as usual, a combincation of too much excercise in conjunction with Wild Mountain Consumation Ale (it's back!) leads us to barely surviving the spin up lazy Z, recovering slightly and then getting my ass kicked by the woods. Again. And again. And again. I need a rest. And tomorrow - will be that rest. The Man of Q goes back to his little kids program this week - this time for three whole days a week (well - ok; 9 - 11). He's stoked. He loves the social time with the little pals. Pretty soon it's the Big Boy Bus, college, and then who knows what. Tic. Toc. Make it count.
In short. Epic team 'future' shesh at the concrete love cradle we call home. Skated new deck...it felt great. Came home, chilled, and went back to labor camp. Labor - is good. I am bloody and tired and sore. All good things. Saw 2 dudes at about 6pm at about 8,600 feet. They were FLATLANDERS. They were WELL out there on a 'trail' with a map and a plan and a light. I shared some beta as they had the great attitude. They were out getting lost. Lost - is great.
Nothing is impossible with good friends and sweat and love.
